Maelstrom 120 - smooth vs corrugated hoses

Hi guys, I have a question about the water cooler Maelstrom 120.

Is there a way to single out the revision that comes with smooth hoses? From my understanding, the old revision had corrugated hoses. Do they give another model number or it has to be identified with the lot number? I cannot find a differentiation on the internet.

This interests me not only because the corrugated one is ugly (as hell to me) but a revision is a revision and might have come with some fixes.

I appreciate any feedback,

There may or may not be a direct answer but there are probably many "old" coolers in the supply chain so even if you know the difference you may be sent an old cooler anyway.

Deepcool probably will probably not be in control of that - barring some safety recall on the older cooler.

My suggestion is to just contact Deepcool via Tech Support or Customer Service.

Hopefully they may be able to provide an answer that will help you identify the revised cooler. Some spec change perhaps if not a model number - revsion number directly.

Then you use that information to find a vendor accordingly.

And even though the original hoses are "ugly" the smooth hoses do not necessarily mean a...

And even though the original hoses are "ugly" the smooth hoses do not necessarily mean a better product/revision. More likely a cost cutting measure. Who knows what else may have been "cut" making the new version simply not as good. (Tend to be cynical about such changes.)

Thanks, I wrote to DeepCool. Let's see what they have to say, because Corsair has model numbers for versions. For example, the old corrugated H60 (with a bogus pump as everyone says -- even at Corsair forum) has part number CWCH60. The new one, with smooth hoses, has part number CW-9060007-WW‎. So it is easy to ask the vendor which one is for sale. Hence my dilemma. I am also selling the cooler afterwards at E-Bay or something (just testing it, already sold three coolers) and it would be a nice motto to say it is the last revision and all.

They could give me a lot number, but I doubt that DeepCool would have the trouble to sort it out for me -- and I have to imagine they differentiate the versions somehow. It is like selling a car with either wood finish or a plain dashboard, but the customer won't know which one he is going to get :) Kid of odd if we think about it.

I hope they have an answer. I'll post here in case I get a reply.

Best regards,

I had to write twice (they did not understand the question) and all he said was that all models they have available for shipping have the new hoses. I was going to write the third time to remind him that some stores still have the old model, that I needed a number part to differentiate them, but I gave up.

I contacted the store and before shipping they will open the box to check which one they have. I don't think the package is sealed. Otherwise I'll buy a Gamer Storm Assassin or such.

I'll post the test results afterwards. I have already tested the H60, H45 and H75.

Just as a note, the Maelstrom 120 arrived and is the best option of all the ones that I tested (H75 / H60 / H45). The fan has a better quality and the unit performs just like the H60 / H75 with a margin of less than 1ºC for better or worse. This with the H60 using washers (in my case), otherwise the H75 and the Maelstrom 120 are much better.

The hoses of the Maelstrom are just like the ones on the H75. Not the best in the world, since the H60 has hoses like they were made to survive Armageddon :)

All in all, a good water cooler.
