PC freezing under heavy CPU load

Hello internet,
I built a PC back in February; it ran great for about 6 months, but then one day it shut off randomly while I was playing a game (didn't touch the BIOS or change anything). Once I rebooted it, it was only a few minutes before it froze. Rebooted it again and the same thing happens. I can't use my computer for more than 5 minutes before it freezes again (a still image stays on the screen, but it is completely unresponsive - I have to force the computer to shutdown by holding the power down). I'm hoping I could find some help here. Here are my specs:

Gigabyte GA-Z170N-WIFI Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard
Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
ADATA 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000 3000 MHz Memory AX4U3000W8G16-DGZ
GTX 980 TI Video Card
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2 Power Supply
Windows 10

More info that may be useful:

  • ■ I have played around with all CPU overclocking settings, nothing (including MB defaults) seems to stop the freezing.
    ■ I first tried resetting my BIOS to the defaults, but then my computer wouldn't boot into Windows 10. I was able to get my PC to power on after manually setting the vcore voltage to 1.3 gHz in the BIOS. I didn't have any freezing issues for about a week before they started frequently again
    ■ The freezes have only happened while I'm in Windows, I haven't had it freeze on me while I'm in the BIOS
    ■ I removed the GPU and ran off the integrated graphics. Froze once I opened my browser
    ■ I tried switching out the power supply unit. I was previously using a Rosewill Valens 700M, but I'm having the same problem now using the SuperNOVA
    ■ I tested each stick of RAM individually by removing the other one. Still had freezes on each stick
    ■ I changed my memory's voltage and timings in BIOS to its rated values
    ■ I've only checked my CPU temps, but they are always fine when it freezes (between 50-60c)

Any help will be greatly appreciated!! This has been causing anxiety for several weeks now, so I'll be ecstatic if anyone can help me out with this :)

Thanks for your suggestions! I have ran a virus and malware scan and haven't found anything, and no new hardware changes. In safe mode it freezes less, but it still freezes. I'm running the system file check right now.

If I stress test using Prime95, it immediately makes the system either freeze or reboot. Could that mean possible CPU failure? I've also tested the memory with memtest86 and completed several passes with no problems.

Yes, I was on version f6 when the issue started, switched to f7 and the issue persisted.

Running the Intel Processor Diagnosis Tool, the computer freezes the second it starts the "CPU load test". All tests ran before that pass.
