I have Dell Optiplex 960 SFF, with stock 235W PSU, Xeon E5 X3323 CPU, 8GB DDR2. I want to get this card: http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814127836
Which would require a PSU upgrade, since Optiplex's use custom PSU to Motherboard connector, I could only find one PSU that will fit which is: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Optiplex-D280ES-00-DPS-280MB-PS-6281-9DA-RoHS/dp/B00CLJN2EO
Which is a 280W, cooling fans are powered by a speedfan which is poweder by an extranal PSU, so the whole system except the fans is powered by the single 235W PSU, if I upgrade it to 280W, would I be able to run the 750Ti? It says minimum PSU required is 400W but if my math was correct, by running the card on full load, I should still have spare 15W so it's not like I'm pushing the PSU to it's limit.

Within 15W is pushing a PSU to its limit. Slightly higher temperatures, poor input power, all would increase the dissipation to around that figure. It will certainly run warm and it would probably have a pretty short lifespan under those conditions.

Assuming a 95W processor, adding a 75W GPU on top of the rest of the system draw is cutting it close.

Not really seeing a proprietary connector, just a small form factor supply and a regular 24pin supply. Simplest would be to transplant the machine to a mid-tower case and get a standard ATX supply.

The TDP of Xeon E5 X3323 is 80W, unless you're assuming the power consumption on full load.

I have already asked this question about a year ago and the final answer was:

I just wanted to double check if this would be enough, because I don't want to buy the PSU (because its genuine Dell PSU and they're getting rare and they go for $60 and upwards for a new one) and the 750Ti just to find out that it will survive for 5 minutes before the PSU fries it self.

if it has standard 24-pin setup you dont need to get a crappy dell

there are way better aftermarket psu's built for small form factor

It has a custom Dell connector, I have made a thread about it before and the conclusion was to cut the connector off my 235W and put it on a PSU I want but that will take a lot of time as I would need to check everycable to see what it does to put it in the right pin in the connector.

On 960's SFF, it's wired diffrently, this a 960 SFF adapter to ATX connector and as you can see, the cables go to diffrent pins
