I currently have a broken PC, I'm getting rid of everything accept my 500 watt psu, msi r9 270, LG disk reader, seagate 1tb, and corsair 2x8 Ram. With the budget I've assigned, what's the best part list I can't get for my buck?

What is the make/model of your "500 watt psu"??

500 what? USD?

What is your RAM kit? 2x8GB.... DDR3?

It might be smarted to get onto Skylake, with DDR4 - meaning you'd be leaving any DDR3 behind.

Depending on the PSU model & quality, it may be worth replacing that.

My psu is a evga 500b

My Ram is two 8 gb sticks with ddr3

Yes, 500 USD

And as far as CPU, I want something that's gonna hold up and be powerful. Can I not use ddr3 for Skylake?

You can use DDR3 with Skylake, but it should be DDR3L, and even then, it's not ideal.

I don't see much reason to go above $370 realistically.

The EVGA 500B is not the best, but far from the worst. If you consider replacing it, the Rosewill Capstone G550W is a quality PSU.

Replacing the motherboard *may* also require a new copy of Windows (W10 licensing isn't exactly clear)
