portable hard drive issues

Hi, My external hard drive shows up in my computer (as the letter I) but when for example I right click on my document folder so i can send it to the external hard drive the 'Send To option' does not show the external storage device (I drive) that I wish to use. (I'm running vista)

Any help gratefully received

BTW - not sure if this make a difference, but the external hard drive shows up under local storage as opposed to removable storage?

Hi there houseman430,

Have you tried the drive on another computer? Does the issue persists?

Are you facing some other issues with the drive? Can you transfer files to it with the drag and drop approach? I believe it will not hurt to test the drive: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Another thing you can do is to go to Disk Management and change the drive letter. See if what would make any difference.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to help on this one Unfortunately i don't have access to another computer.i have run a CHKDSK in Command Prompt and everything OK. Also uninstalled re- installed and re formatted everything I can think of,or have found on forums. I think I'm not going to sweat about it any more. Life is to short! I will just go drag and drop route :) Cheers Paul
