It's also helpful to know your budget. AMD has some sweet offerings in the sub $300 range with the RX 400 series right now, but if money is no concern, then GTX 1070, or 1080 is also made for VR.

You can use virtually any graphics cards with your specs, so, the GTX 1070 may be a good option for you and leave enough to upgrade the monitor as well. Any modern graphics cards is going to be overkill for the 1600x900 resolution you currently have.
