Hi, I'm about to buy the last part to my PC, The CPU

So Far I've ordered:
Motherboard - MSI Z170 Krait Gaming 3x
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB @3000Mhz (White)
Case - NZXT S340 (White)
PSU - EVGA Supernova g2 650w

Ill be getting the GPU soon afterwards either Rx 480 or GTX 1060

However I now need to order the CPU, Its between the i7 6700 and the i7 6700K
(I would go for a 6600K, but id rather get an i7, so don't suggest any i5)

I can either buy a brand new sealed 6700 on Amazon for £250

Or a used 6700K with an intel stock cooler (No warranty) on EBay for £260

What do I do? On EBay I can't return the CPU if anything happens to it. However Amazon will usually send a replacement or something (It happen before with my brothers CPU, they sent a new one when something happen to his)

I will have to buy a better cooler for the K version aswell. I'm not really interested in OCing however Id like to have the option there in case I change my mind. The K version also has a higher clock speed.

I've heard you can OC a non-K processor, should I consider that?

Help!

It would only be worth it if you definitely planned to OC in the future and you were prepared to buy a better cooler later. otherwise a i7-6700 is equally fast.

first, you don't need to buy a different cooler for 6700K *because* you're not overclocking. If it was me, I'd just buy the 6700 because Ebay is more risky. you could get a broken CPU or you could get ripped off. If you're not OCing, then 200MHz or whatever the difference is won't make a difference to your performance.

Yeah I have been scammed on EBay before which is why its risky.
I'm just worried that in the future I'll want to overclock to get better performance but I wont be able to.
Will I see a difference In gaming or any different tasks with 3.4GHz vs 4GHz?

I differ.

Buy the i7-6700K. For all the reasons you stated.
The 6700K never comes with a stock cooler.
I suppose a stock intel pushpin cooler would work, but really, buy a $30 cryorig H7, hyper212 or any other tower type air cooler with a 120mm fan.
It will be quieter and will allow you to overclock.

If the ebay seller has a decent reputation and you pay with paypal you should be ok.
If the 6700K is advertised as working, you can return it for full paypal credit if it is not as advertised.
Ebay sides with the buyer in disputes. If it comes to that, communicate only via email and keep a copy trail.

The warranty on a intel cpu will be 3 years. Intel will honor the warranty regardless of where you bought it.
Do take the time to get all of the numbers off the cpu or from the original box.
In particular, the batch number which documents the manufacturing date for warranty purposes.
Since the 6700K is recent, there should be no problem.

You can technically oc a non "K" processor via BCLK, but that is not recommended and the potential is perhaps 2%.
Not worth it.
