So I just received my i7-4790k in the mail from amazon and i am going to replace my current cpu which is a i5-4690k and I have used it for about 1 year and 4 months. I am wondering how long the i7 can last in my previous built rig which has run fine except for my r9 280x giving me screen glitches. Is it bad that I am buying a processor for a lga 1150 pin mb insteal of 1151. Thanks.

Unless you're doing some heavy multitasking or rendering, I don't really see anything wrong with the 4690k, let alone the 4790k. Both should be good for years to come. Even if 6 core becomes the norm, it will still take at least 5 years for the hardware refresh cycle to catch up to where developers will assume everyone has one.
