I was just killing time on PCPartPicker to see if my power supply has enough juice to support a new graphics card when I noticed the Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400MHz memory wasn't compatible with my Sandy Bridge EP Xeon processor. Apparently the max voltage is 1.5 +5% (1.575V) but I've also heard something about XMP which my motherboard supports. Should I be worried or is this fine? The memory is already on its way and it's rated at 1.65V

Xeon E5 2670
ASRock x79 Extreme 4
16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400
Corsair CX430M

It won't hurt it, but if it makes you feel better, just get a 4x4GB 1.5v kit instead.

Intel states that Skylake is compatible with DDR4 AND DDR3L which is the low voltage version of DDR3. Intel states that regular DDR3 is not recommended, but even that seems to be up for debate here as there are people claiming to be running said combo successfully.

(Mobile version of website doesn't have dedicated reply button :( )

Yeah I read that I need to enable XMP to get that advertised 2400MHz but if I do go that high, will this damage my CPU? The problem is PCPartPicker said Sandy Bridge EP processors can only handle 1.575v and I also read that Skylake processors shouldn't use DDR3L because that higher voltage might kill the processor entirely. I bought this RAM mainly because if I create a RAMDisk, then it will be even faster than 1600MHz so using stock only would defeat the purpose of me even picking this kit of RAM. I'm just worried because I saw that article with Skylake and DDR3L, wouldn't want to kill my Xeon :c
