I'm currently digging through amazon and newegg for an android tablet that is good for media consumption and possibly some light gaming. I'd like it to be at least 8 inches with a high resolution screen, good processor (at least quad core @ 1.3 GHZ), and I can't spend over $350. For a while I was waiting for the money to buy an Nvidia K1, but now that I have the money they're all sold out or being sold for almost $100 dollars over the msrp. At the moment I've found three potential tablets I'm interested in: the Samsung galaxy tab S 8.4, the galaxy tab A 10.1 (T580), and the Asus Zenpad S 8 (Z580CA). Right now I'm leaning toward the galaxy S but this is my first time buying a tablet and am not sure on what's a good deal. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

im doing the same. ive had a wikipad and currently have acer iconica tab 8. wikipads were a great concept just poorly executed and seemed to want to brick up - acer has great screen res but likes to freeze up and reset with a few of games and im wanting a larger one because the 8 inch seems a bit small at times.

im also a little disappointed that all the responses to this post never answered what was asked ... the community here is better than that

I'm not quite sure since I'm mainly a PC gamer and this being my first tablet purchase, I have never really owned a gaming capable android device or played any demanding android games. I'm thinking geometry wars 3, soul calibur, and maybe riptide GP2 but like I said I've never had a powerful android device so I'm not sure of what games are good or hard to run, but I'd like to have enough power on my tablet to try them out. I might try some nintendo emulation also and I don't know how demanding that is on a tablet.

I actually only have a very old $40 lg phone and I'd prefer not to pay extra for a keyboard as I'm not planning on typing a lot, but I wouldn't mind a good windows tablet I just couldn't find a nice one in my budget

Sounds like you should just buy a new phone then, for $350 you can get fairly good ones that will play those games just fine!

The thing is, at the moment I don't really need one all that bad considering I mainly just text people from my gmail because It saves me a phone bill. Also, I'd like a larger screen for watching media and one of the main reasons I'm getting a tablet is because I'm learning C# and trying to both watch the tutorial and run visual studio in separate windows on my 22" monitor is a big pain. I was considering a galaxy S5 for a while, but I'd really like to try out a tablet because I've never owned one before and would like to have a bigger screen for watching netflix.

For that you should just get a second monitor, you can find decent 1080p 23" models for <$150. I personally always run dual monitor in my developer machines (including one i'm using right now, with VS2015 in one monitor and youtube+other things on the other ;) )

I don't mean to drag this out, let me be a little more clear on why I would like a tablet lol I'd like to watch netflix at night with my PC off, and I'd like to use it for watching videos I have downloaded when I'm out of the house (I'm planning on purchasing a large microSD card). I'd like to use a tablet to control my pc remotely using splashtop or a similar program while I'm on the couch in my room so I don't have to get up and doing this with a small phone screen is a hassle. I'd like the extra screen size over a phone, and don't need a better phone than the one I have now since I don't want a phone bill and don't leave the house often so I always have wifi to use talkatone or text from gmail. Gaming is a low priority for me with this because I have a gaming PC, but I'd like it to be powerful enough to do at least some light gaming and be really snappy in the OS. Sorry if I made this complicated, I'm just looking for some recommendations on good tablets for around $300.

Yeah i know, right. I just ordered the samsung galaxy Tab A this evening, crossing my fingers that I like it as much as I think I will. Really wish that the nvidia k1 tablet wasn't sold out everywhere I was really looking forward to buying one of those but I guess I could use a bigger screen.

if thats the shield i looked at that last year when my wikipad died ... it looked really nice but it seems the older versions liked to over heat while charging. but cpu power and front speakers with a wireless game controller seemed like the way to go but the avail has been horrid
