Hello!

I am having some performance problems on my pc. I built it in December of 2015 and got all of my parts new. I can play csgo at about 160 fps, skyrim at around 45 fps and most disappointingly, fallout 4 at around a average 25 fps at 1080p. this is not the kind of fps i want in games. keep in mind that these games were all played at lowest graphical settings possible. im thinking its my ram

Specs:
Cpu: AMD FX 8320 clocked at 3.5
MB: MSI 970 Gaming
Ram: Crucial 1x8 DDR3-1600
Graphics Card: MSI R9 380 4GB OC Armor 2x
PSU: EVGA 500W Bronze Certified
Case: Thermaltake Versa H22 (No Window)
OS: Windows 10 Pro

Thanks for the help! Have a nice day.

What happens to your components when you're playing a game? Do you have some sort of Overlay like MSI Afterburner that you can use to monitor your system? I want to know if your graphics card or CPU is running at 100%, which might indicate an issue. I do doubt it is the ram, but it is a possibility. If all of it is being used up by something, the overlay would be able to tell you.

^^Agreed. Start out in FO4 with an overlay/monitor to get usage, temps and other stats on your hardware. Please post peak temps, usage and values for CPU, GPU, RAM and PSU stats.

EDIT: In newer processors I think overclocking has become highly overrated, but for the aging FX's (lighter on the IPC figures), it really helps. With a good air cooler, 4.2Ghz (a 20% boost to performance) should be achievable with that board:

CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H5 Ultimate 76.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($46.98 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($64.88 @ OutletPC)
Case Fan: Thermaltake Luna 12 LED 50.4 CFM 120mm Fan ($11.98 @ OutletPC)

Total: $135.82

A matched dual channel kit of faster RAM may help a bit, but depends (really just a good time to do it as DDR3 is going away, and mixing in RAM frequently produces insidious problems). As heat will be higher in the case, if you don't have all the fan positions occupied, it would a good time to add them.

Beyond that, if you still have the budget to look for performance.....the GPU will have the biggest impact. The new RX 480 is a great deal for ~$250, and is good choice for that price range as it allows for adding a second GPU and is compatible with FreeSync monitors (if a monitor upgrade is anywhere in the future).

You could also look at adding a second R9 380 to boost FPS (which your board does support), but you'd need at least a 750w PSU to do that......where with selling the 380 you have and upgrading to a RX480, you could keep the PSU you have. You should be able to get ~$100 for a 380 4Gb though, so would make the upgrade pretty affordable:

Hello, sorry for not responding.
I got a virus about 2 months ago, my performance dropping even more. I wiped my hard drive so everything should have been back to normal. I'm downloading msi afterburner right now, I will get back to you if anything is weird while play skyrim special edition.
