Upgrade my MOBO?

Ok, here is what I'm looking at: I recently put together a build to game on and it and have been pleased with it. I set about building for several reasons, one is that my other system, a pre-built HP. was never great at gaming despite the various upgrades to it including memory and a graphics card.
My next project I thought of was to upgrade the case on the non-gaming pre-built rig as it has always been terrible with cooling and airflow- one 92mm fan low in the case is all it has for ventilation and no opening in the front for airflow. Just by example, as I sit here, my gaming rig CPU is holding at a nice cool 18 degree C while the other system is at 45 degrees just at an idle. I even went so far as purchasing a case for this.

So to get to the point: I have a new case, plus the components that were installed as upgrades:

16GB of DDR3 RAM on 4 sticks
GT730 video card (will handle some older games)
Vortex Coolermaster CPU cooler (not installed)
600 watt PSU

Looking at the new case I see several issues. New case has 3.0 USB ports on the front and MB does not support this, and no extra headers for any additional case fans.

I am looking at possibly reusing the AMD CPU in it - a 4-core Phenom II x 4 640 that runs at 3.1 Ghz. I am eying an Asrock MB that supports the AM3 socket and most Athlon II and Phenom II CPU's including mine.

Question is: would my I be able to plug my current HDD with its installed Windows 7 operating system and other various installed programs, pictures, videos, etc? Or am I going to need to put in a new drive and new OS? I still like to use the old system for surfing, banking, on-line shopping, etc. and I like the convenience of 2 systems.

Thanks, I appreciate whatever advise you guys can offer.

If you plug the current HDD in it might work. But since you are swapping mobos, even if it does work your windows 7 license might stop working. Since your HDD is old just get a new HDD and a new OS.

You are probably right about that since the Windows 7 was an OEM installation. A fresh install would have to be from the recovery disc I made when I got the system. Even if that worked, there's the 5 years of upgrades to consider...
