Before we begin, I have tried all the HP windows key + B tricks so those dont work, we are going more technical.
I got this AIO HP Pavilion 23 (23-b003) which completed the BIOS update to the latest one available ( http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-23-b000-All-in-One-Desktop-PC-series/5295897/model/5336142 ).
Now the monitor no longer works but it still boots into windows (there are sounds). LED backlight is off however when I shine light on it the entire display goes through a red-green-blue-white-black cycle.
HP support only copy-pastes the instructions available on their site so I came here for a grain of wisdom with some pictures of course.
First there is this additional board between the integrated GPU and monitor with jumpers for what seems like different display manufacturers (LG and SAMSUNG as far as I can tell) and new BIOS could be sending wrong signals out I guess but im not sure about changing these just yet.
There are also some bios config jumpers, ROM recovery but I ned additional hardware to mess with that and board details on last one. I have tried blindly starting another bios update but no success so far. also, this PC has no external monitor connectors so theres that.
Any help is welcome!
