Basicly whenever I play any game my pc shuts of after a couple of minutes. I have had this problem for a long time, but just recently I saved some money and bought a bunch of computer parts. I replaced the motherboard (new: msi Z170A Gaming M3), the cpu (new: Intel i5 6600k), ram (new: Kingston DDR4 8GB) and a new harddrive. So a completely fresh start exept for the gpu (Sapphire Radeon HD7850 1GB GDDR5) and the psu.
I've seen a bunch of people with the same problem, and i've tried some solutions. I've swapped the psu for my friends old one (XFX 550W), with no difference. I've made some tweaks with the fans, making them work more efficiently.
But when I downloaded Core Temp, I managed to time it so that i checked the temperature of the cpu a couple of seconds before it died. It was at around 45 celsius while playing.
Now, I'm not very good with computers, but I figure It's either the graphics card or some drivers messing something up.
Does anyone have any idea?

No I haven't had any problems at all after upgrading. Be sure to check everything else before buying a new gpu though, in case that it isn't the gpu acting up.

I checked it out and started a game so I would see what would come up after the crash. It seems to be Windows-Power-Kernel (Event-ID 41). But from what I could find this is just when the computer starts up after not shutting down properly, and not the error itself.

Look for events preceding the restart (Event-ID 41) entries. Especially any log entries (error, warning, informational) that consistently occur either individually or in some sequence prior to the restart entry.

Many services are dependent on others. If one service crashes it could appear as if an improper shutdown has occurred.

That aside the next option is to look at everything being started at boot time. Applications, AV, backup software etc.. Stop as many as possible and play the game. Then one by one start each one up again. Tedious and it takes time. The objective is to see if some particular product, process, or service can be identified as the culprit.

In almost all of the threads i've read, people have the problem with Windows 7 or 8, just like me. Do you think the solution might be to upgrade to windows 10?

Do not really know what the problem is so the Windows 10 upgrade solution would be a shot in the dark.....

And upgrading to Windows 10 would open up a whole host of changes and probably a few new problems.

Perhaps there is something with respect to the new hardware/drivers etc. that favors Windows 10 and no longer plays well with Windows 7/8.

I would continue making controlled changes to the computer, one at a time, play the game, and keep checking the logs. You might likewise watch the Task Manager, Performance Monitor, Resource Monitors. See if you can catch some change as you near the "couple of minutes" mark.

The PC is still a build in progress and I will eventually swap out my gpu as well, if that is the cause of this. I also talked to the support on the site I bought the computer from in the first place and they said to make a fresh install of windows. Tried out the Windows 10 theory and it didn't help. allthough I did only "uppgrade" that time. Going to try to make a fresh install and if that doesn't work I'll swap my gpu, since I will be doing it in the future anyway.
I have not gotten around to doing a thourough search as you recomended, but I tried shutting as much as possible down, without interfering with the system, before starting. Also without luck

I bought a new gpu and installed it just now, have not had any problems at all.

Turns out that the old one was faulty in some way even though it was not overheating.

Thank you Ralston for good tips and knowledge :)

Have you ran into any problems with the new gpu? I'm having the same issue as you had and I now suspect it's the GPU.
