I need to replace AMD processor and MB with Z170 and 6700K (I hope). OS is OEM Win 10 upgraded from 8 to 8.1 to 10. Machine is used for business and flight simulator. OS, tax preparation software, Quickbooks, MS Office, client data all on a 1TB HDD. Simulator is on almost full 500GB SSD. Rebuilding tax files on HDD and P3D files on SSD will be a major headache (read days and days). Suggestions, advice, references, and outright solutions are solicited (short of suicide or whole new machine).

If it is so important to keep your data, then you need the same or similar AMD motherboard in order to boot up the old OS. A major hardware change, to Z170 and 6700K, will not boot up your old OS. Try eBay for an old AMD motherboard.

Next time you might want to create a back up for your data.

As far as I am aware, and from experience, you should backup the data, as a majir hardware change WILL affect your stability of the OS. Blue screen of death or failure to boot OS is the result of just swapping the hardware. That's what happened to me when I changed my Processor to a slightly better spec (AMD Phenom II, years ago).

You can't transfer your Win10 license. You will need a new one.

Some have had success just plopping in their old SSD/HD into a new system, many have not. It's definitely not recommended.

Either way as said before, a good backup is essential as you have your business data there.

Be prepared to re-install everything.
