Hello. I have not found much research on Phenom ii x4 925 compatibility with the latest GPUs available, since most tests are about 945/55/65 etc. I'd be thankful for any suggestions on the topic.

My current specs:
PSU: 550watt Enhance ATX-0255GA
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 925 2.8Ghz - not OC -[Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus]
MB: GA-MA770T-UD3 1.0 rev.
RAM: 2*2048 DDR3 SDRAM Kingston KVR1333D3N9/2G
GPU: HIS Radeon 5850 HD 1024MB GDDR5

So, generally, I want to upgrade my system and I wonder if I can just get more RAM and change the GPU to RX 480 or GTX 1060 w/o getting terribly bottlenecked by the CPU I have. Can I run i.e. DooM 4 at 60 FPS, ultra settings and 1440x900 res. like that? Are these GPUs an overkill for my system?

It should work together.

CPU bottlenecks have nothing to do with your video card. If it's too slow to run a game, it'll be just as slow with a low-end card as with a high-end one. A video card upgrade will simply allow you to run at higher graphical settings. Your CPU is responsible for what your maximum framerates are.
