This is so frustrating. Hi everyone, i'm currently having this problem: my new motherboard (ASUS Maximus Vii Ranger) won't recognize my graphics card (MSI GTX 1060). The weird part is that when plugging my monitor to the GPU (trhough HDMI) I do get display. But, whenever i go into MSI Afterburner it identifies my GPU as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". I've reinstalled the GPU drivers twice already, no luck... Any ideas?

I'm not too familiar with that board but for most Z170 boards when you go into the BIOS the setting to disable the iGPU is usually found under "peripherals". Go there and check and make sure that the iGPU is disabled.

Another thing - do you have your power connectors fully secured? Chances are good that something might have got unplugged somewhere.

The BIOS has the option to choose PCIE for the GPU, wichI did,but every time I restart the PC (saving changes) it goes back to Auto isntead of PCIE. One thing I forgot to mention is that I just re-installed Windows 10. Could it be that the system's not up to date?

Wow, it was exactly as I thought. Once I installed Windows 10 latest update it immediately recognized the GPU, name and everything. Thank you SO much for your time and input!
