I got a sabertooth x79 a while now (4 year ?)
Had it with a Corsair 4x4GB (CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9) without issues.

Bought another 4x4GB set a week ago (I know that it's not manufactured any more, yet I had to have the same specs to combine the extra 4 slots).

Plugged them and I can see that A1 + A2 + C1 + C2 are OK and B1 + B2 + D1 + D2 are ABNORMAL.

Getting into the DIMMS I can see all the properties and size, yet the total is only 16G and not 32G.

I noticed that the old DIMMS are XMP 1.2 and the new ones are 1.3
also there are some differences in the timing - yet both are 9-9-9-24

Total is 16G but all 8 DIMMS are listed

DIMM from the old 4x4 (notice that it's XMP 1.2)

DIMM from the new 4x4 (XMP is 1.3 + some other timing differences)

They are of the same model,
just different versions (didn't knew that there are versions - otherwise wasn't ordering)

Bought a third set from Amazon, this time it's XMP 1.3 as the previous set.
I still doesn't get the whole 32GB RAM as I expected.

On the bios I noticed that 4 slots appear as ABNORMAL as before but this time all the clocking settings are identical except for one (DRAM CKE) :
