Hi..I have a i5 2500 non k , 8gb ddr3 1333 and r9 280x CU2. What do you think is best? Buy a gtx 1060 and a board 1151, i5 6600 and 8gb ddr4, or buy a gtx 1070 and stay with i5 2500 non k.

Thanks for your answers!

A GTX 1070 is overkill and a waste of money for a 60Hz 1080p monitor since it runs most games above 80FPS at that resolution. The 1060 is the sweet spot (6GB variant) for 1080p gaming except for the new Dues Ex, which even taxes a 1070 in Ultra (under 60FPS) at 1080p. Dues Ex is the new Crysis.

Put the Sandy Bridge equipment out to pasture as a second PC or something and upgrade to Skylake with a 1060 (make sure to get a factory overclocked variant like ASUS Strix, MSI Gaming, or EVGA SC Gaming). An overclocked 1060 can get to within 10% of the performance of a 1070 for a lot less money.

At 1080p, you will see a gain in FPS between a 2500 and 6600, perhaps a 5% improvement. When CPU speed and generation start to mean less is when you go beyond 1080p and use higher quality and AA settings, which put more stress on the GPU (I still have a 2500K build that is now a backup gaming rig...see my sig below).

So from your seat, you will gain in FPS both from a new Skylake CPU and motherboard and the 1060 to probably come real close in performance to just upgrading to a 1070 on the 2500 (if not equal it). These kinds of comparisons are never done and would be very interesting to see. I'm just basing my opinion on my personal experience with upgrades over the years.

Huge increase in Witcher 3 These are the K processors but should be about the same as the non K since both are the top of the line.
