So let me explain my problem. I had bought a gigabyte GeForce gtx 750 ti off of Craigslist (probably not the smartest decision), and I take it home, uninstalled all drivers and programs for the graphics card that was installed. I take out the graphics card, and put the gtx 750 ti in, plug in the 6 pin power cable to the card, and when I turn my computer I get the message "please power down and connect the PCIe power cable to this graphics card." My question is: Did I get screwed over?

Here is my rig.
Dell Studio XPS 8100
-Dell mobo
-i7-860 2.8GHz
-16GB ram @1333
-Corsair CX500M PSU
I don't have many control in the bios on this mobo

Considering my computer is a little older maybe it is that and not the card itself, but I don't believe that's the case. It should work right?

Thanks for the help.

If you just bought the card, and the pre built dell tower system you have first of all used the on board video solution of the motherboard.

As well as connecting the power from the power supply unit of the system to the six pin provided on the 750 Ti pci-e graphics card.

You also have to check, as in most cases with pre built dell systems using the on board graphics solution that you connect the 12v E-atx power block also on the motherboard via the power supply unit you have.

It can be four or a eight pin connector on the motherboard Matt located near or around the cpu socket of the motherboard.

Without the 12v E-atx power block connected the card will fail to be detected when you place it in the Pci-e graphics card slot of the motherboard.

It is likely that is the problem because more often than not Dell do not connect this power point from the Psu to the motherboard when it just uses the on board video solution of it.

And why you are asked to power down the system Matt.

Have a check if it is connected if not, once you connect it the 750 Ti card will be seen by the bios of the motherboard ok.

Look at the picture link bellow by clicking on it.
You will see the 12v E-atx power connector in white of four pins.
Connect the four pins from the Psu to this point.

And it should all work for you net time you power the system up Matt ok.
