Hey guys, I need some ideas for a gaming build for around $2000. I already have a ssd so I'm all good for storage. I kinda would like to have a theme or color scheme to the build along with the same brand for gpu and mobo (I know it doesn't matter but I'm OCD). I was thinking the quad core i7 skylake, or should I get the 6 cores? I also already have a 4k monitor but with the budget I'm sure the 1080 would fit in there. Thanks for any help you can give!

Alright then, sounds good. ;)
Get the very first build I listed, but if you can spend a little more, it would be worth it to get a nicer looking case, although functionally little can beat the Z3 Plus in that price range.

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($319.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($112.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($61.00 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 1080 8GB STRIX Video Card (2-Way...
If you're going to play only, an i5 will do the job, now, if you want to be safe, a i7 6700 will do fine.

I recommend you pick an non-locked CPU, so, you have advantage in the future for overclocking. With a nice Z motherboard and good cooling solutions.

After that, at today, the best card for the resolution that you mentioned will be a GTX1080, but i recommend wait before picking it, maybe nvidia have plans to release their GTX 1080 Ti and you have the best single card for 4k.

Unless you are going to stream or you are going to do some rendering/editing, I dont think you need to go with X99, Skylake should get the job done, if you want more "future proof" tho, you can, or wait for AMD Zen, but if you prefer Intel just ignore that. You can go on PCPartPicker and get an idea of the build yourself, that's usually a nice thing to do. Hope that helps :p

Do you need a monitor included in that budget?
I'll make a 6 core build in a sec.
@ Gray Silencer, some very poor component choices in there such as the cooler, motherboard, RAM and PSU.
Overpriced for what they should be, and the 6800k performs the same as the 5820k which costs less.
@OP do you need a 1440p 144hz monitor included in the budget?

Here is a gaming $2000 build.

As I said before, go with Skylake, which is what you need for gaming, and if you want get a 1080 sli, the build that is up here, (the sli one), without storage, and you can spend that money on a better mobo maybe, and higher frecuency ram.
