My pc is using a Gigabyte GA-77OT-USB3 motherboard with an AMD Phenom II processor. A while back I was having issues with my pc where it would run very hot and if i played a game that was too much for it, then it would crash. The fans on my pc would keep running but that's about it. The problem was believed to be my thermal paste on the processor was dried out, causing it to overheat. I re-applied and it worked fine for a few months, until now. Now without signs of getting worse, it just started to not boot anymore. The case and video card lights come on and the fans come on but the pc doesn't boot up at all. It doesn't beep either. I already tried another power supply. I connected it only to the 2 different atx ports on my motherboard but still nothing. I'm convinced it is an issue with either my motherboard or my processor. Could you guys give me some insight? I don't have a problem replacing the parts, I just don't want to spend money on the wrong part.

If you did try something like this: Bench it - Troubleshooting http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1753671/bench-troubleshooting.html The problem maybe from either cpu or MB. You can take out the cpu to see there is any burn mark or not.
If you don't have other cpu or MB to test, you should go to local PC shop ask for help, because nobody will know without the test.

I'm planning on replacing the motherboard but it's so old they don't make them with amd 770 chipsets anymore. I don't know a lot about that stuff, but will my amd phenom II cpu that was compatible with the 770 chipset work in a newer MB with a different chipset? For example: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130790
