Do you mind if we get computer specs? We just need to know for compatibility reasons.

GTX 260 is not a good choice as it requires two 8-pin connectors, that's entirely too much power draw for such little performance in 2016.

I recommend spending around $110-$120 on something new and efficient. GT 730 isn't really a gaming card. Go for something a bit better.

I will say that there is a huge jump in performance till around the $200 dollar mark. You can even get an RX460 4GB for as cheap as $120 and RX460 2GB for $110. There are a ton of other cards to think about, I will say that spending less than $100 dollars is usually a waste when it comes to GPU's as they tend to be really slow and or a couple of generations old.

my psu is a 350w not sure wich one, my gpu is a geforce gt 420, my cpu is an intel core 2 quad q6600 clocked at 2.4 ghz, and i have 2 gb of ddr2 667 mhz which i am planning to upgrade to 4-6gb of ddr2 800 mhz (and yes i am aware that my computer is pretty crappy and old but its what i got) the reason i was looking at those gpu's was because i was looking for a gpu that wouldn't bottlekneck my cpu and both of those are much better than my corrent gpu

GTX 260 is definitely out of the question with a 350W PSU. GTX 750 Ti or RX 460 is what you should get. But if you don't want to spend that much, idk I'm not even gonna recommend anything else. You might do well with something older/used, but with a 350W PSU, your best bet is 750 Ti or RX 460, one without a PCIE power connector.

So I would definitely get more system RAM, it would be very helpful to know the exact motherboard you are using or the computer model if it is a prebuilt system like a Dell, HP, Acer, ect.. 2x4GB=8GB kits are pretty expensive ($150-$200) but 4X2GB=8GB kits are much much less. Also you could try getting two of the exact same 2X2GB kits for around $25-$35 each depending on what your system supports. So 4GB will be much cheaper and for most non state of the art games will be enough but 8GB could be well worth it depending on what you are planning to run for games. You might be able to overclock your CPU (most hit at least 3Ghz) or find a cheap Q9XXX cpu (like a Q9400 or Q9600) for $30-$50 and run it at 3.4-4Ghz with a decent board. I understand that your computer is kinda old and kinda slow but I think it would be a mistake to get an older mid to higherend GPU rather than a new lower end GPU as the new GPU will be faster, use less power, support new API's like Vulkan and DX12, have better hardware video decoding and encoding, better compute support (OpenCL) and have drivers that will support new OS's better. Your PSU can not handle a very powerful hungry GPU and your current one is rated at 50watts so I would stay below 75watts with any gpu you get (the most non overclocked rx460 are rated at less than 75 watts and draw power from the PCI-E slot). Here is a link to some that I like.

$130 4GB OC version http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125897
$120 2GB OC version http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125898
$110 2GB cheapest version I can find but they recomend a 400watt PSU (a good 350watt should be enough) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131695

if you guys look at my first post i play games like garrys mod and some of the counter strike titles but i will add team fortress 2 i also play trials evolution and a bit of beamng drive but i play at the very lowest settings i'm really just looking for something that increases my current fps on most games that i play by at least 60 fps but i think the rx 460 is just a little bit overkill if you ask me

Feel free to buy one of the cheap cards like a 730 GT or R7 250 but keep in mind that they are really really slow and a very bad investment. The 730GT is barely faster than an Igpu(intel 530 or the R7 GPU on the A10-7870K) built on a modern CPU and the R7 250 is a bit faster but still not by that much. If you get either of those cards be prepaired to run at 720P an lowest settings to have a chance at playable frame rates in anything semi modern. Also you have to be careful buying 730GT's because there are several version and they use different GPU's some much older than others. Many people I know have bought these cheap cards only to realize that they basically wasted their money and ended up buying a better card within a month or two.

ya your right i think i'm going to go with something like a 750 ti. but keep in mind i am 13 years old so i don't have much of a budget which is why i came here in the first place.

So I did a quick look at prices for new 750Ti's and they cost the same as a RX460 with the RX460 being way faster. But anyways if you do get a 750 Ti make sure you get one that runs off PCI-E power only and does not need 6Pin power to run as your 350watt PSU probably does not have one. Oh and the 750Ti does not support DirectX 12 but only very new games use it and most have a DirectX 11 mode as well.
