old style pci slot is different from PCI3 slot

I have just bought a PCI Express USB3 card and it wont fit in a standard PCI slot. A different offset distance and a blocking piece so that it cant be inadvertantly fitted.
Is there any way that it can be adapted to fit the standard PCI slot?

Well you just said its a PCIe card in a PCI lane, those are not compliant with eachother.

What specific card and motherboard do you have>
