Amazing Fps Problem

Hello. Last a few months I am having ridiculous fps problems in some games. For example, Star Wars Battlefront. I used to have GTX760 and I played this game on High-Ultra settings with no fps drop. 5-6 months ago I bought GTX970 and few months later I got this problem. I thought it was Windows10 issue, like disc usage etc. I format it and install Windows7 and I still have it. My brother has the same setup as mine and he doesn't have any problem.

Yesterday I installed Battlefield 1 Open Beta and I have this issue on that too. On ultra settings I have 90-100 fps but every minute or so it goes to 20fps for like 5-10 seconds. I lowered the settings all low, just to make sure and it's still the same.

Is there any way to figure out if it is on hardware? If it is HDD, I want to change it. I know it's not graphics card or processor. Both tempratures are 70-71C.

I play Witcher 3, Shadow of Mordor, Dark Souls 3 etc and I don't have this problem on those games. 1 or 2 times at most. If it is significant to just EA games, how can I prove it and how can I solve it? It just doesn't make sense.

I have AMD 8350 and GTX 970.

Solution
It's in place to protect your hardware. You should focus on lowering your CPU temperatures. Check if your cooler is properly installed, reapply thermal paste, etc. What is the CPU cooler you are using? Is your case well ventilated?
Hi there

I'm sorry to hear your having this issue as I myself have had trouble-some FPS issues in the past.
I myself also own a GTX 970 (use to have a GTX 650 installed) thou I have a i7 4790K beside it.

See your temp for the CPU is 70C I would advice you read this thread:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2050316/8350-cpu-temperature-throttling.html

The GPU is fine at 70C as my GTX 970 can be between 40-69C and not have any issues, it hardly uses its fans. The recommended highest temp is around the mid 90's but really 80C would be the max to stay safe.

Also I myself played the Battlefield Beta last night and it told me I had to update my driver (never had a game tell me to update the driver before) so I did the driver update and ran the game. To be safe I ran the game all high with ultra textures so I have some spare horse power left if the card needed it. I found I had frame stutter and blurriness on fullscreen but borderless was sharp and ran fine at my 1080p res and at a constant locked 60fps vysnced.

What are your CPU usages for the games you get frame drop in? You can use MSI Afterburner to monitor your hardware but use Youtube to learn how to set up the overlay.

The FX 8350 came out in 2012 so that is nearly 5 years ago.... it has very old architecture and I would not be surprised if it was struggling a bit, new games are optimised for current gen hardware more than old gen gear.

I know you moved back to Windows 7 (my favourite OS) but just so you know Windows 10 did have known HDD/SSD 100% issues which Microsoft still haven't solved.

Yea I can do that but I did not have any problem before, even when I have Gtx760 and now I don't have any fps issues on Witcher 3 and Dark Souls 3. Those are new games too. I had fps issues on Battlefield 4 few months ago before I deleted it.

My brother with the same system does not have any problem. It is so interesting.

So if you put your old card in you have no issues?

I have seen so many FX CPU threads lately about FPS drop, most of the time is was CPU temp or the CPU just not being cut out for it anymore.

-Try out your old GPU

-Check temps and usages

Then get back to us.

I can't use my old GPU, I sold it and it's not certain that it is GPU issue. It didn't just occur when I plug new GPU. It happened after couple of months and like I said, it is only happening on some games not always.

It has been always 65-70ºC since I started to use FX 8350.

I am starting to suspect CPU. Which specs can I check besides temperature and with which program?

I tried it and figured out the problem. GPU usage drops down to %30-40 in every 45-60 seconds. When it does, FPS drops as well, to 20-30.

When FPS is 90-100, GPU usage is %95-98.

I hope it is fixable...

I didn't check all cores, I monitored overall cpu usage, it was around %70 stable. Should I check for each one?

Don't even look at the 'overall' you need to have it showing each core its temp and usage. We need to see what is happen when the drops occur.

I checked. 1 of them is around %90, other 7 is around %70 during the game. During the drop, cores don't change at all. Full stable.

How does this make GPU drop? and what should I do?

Can you tell me what should I do next to fix it, if it is fixable?

I have friends who have the same system or same CPU with another GPU. GTX 1060 for example. And my brother has the exactly same system in the house. They don't have this problem. How?

I finally figure out the problem: CPU is shutting itself down when its reached 68degrees. It downs to 50 or something then FPS backs to normal. I am trying to disable this feature or something but I can't figure it out. I want it to go up 80-85 or whatever.
