Hi I had a power shortage and when I switched the PC on (it's a Dell running on PC) I got a message that windows needed to shut down. I turned it off and got the blue chkdsk screen saying it is checking file system C, it's NTFS and the volume is dirty. It run stage 1 in minutes, stage 2 has now been running for 16 hours and is still on 2 percent. I have tried running it in safe mode, command prompt but it won't do any of them so I am stuck with the blue screen at 2 percent and don't know what to do next. Can anyone help? I am not particularly techno savvy.

You may have a failed hard drive, remove the drive from the computer, install it as a secondary drive in another desktop or in a USB enclosure and see if you can get to your files to copy them. Best thing to do after that is to get a new hard drive, install Windows on that, and copy your files over from the original drive.

Thanks for your reply. I decided in the end to get a computer guy to come in and have a look at it and you are right it is a failed hard drive but considering it is 9 years old it hasn't done too bad lol. I am getting a new PC and exactly as you said he is going to copy all my files over.
