I have an old psu. I have it since 2009. Chieftec 850w turbo. It was an overkill for my old system, i bought it cause i wanted to sli. But my dream never came true. The question is do i keep it for my new system or should i. Ditch it?
Ps. My old system died from a mobo failure , and im not sure if the culprit of the mobo failure is the psu. Please help me Iam a kinda noob on those things.

Solution
my first warning was the fact that it was not a common brand. while this is certainly not a deciding factor, generally if something is good, its reputation is good as well. after a fair amount of research ( it seems to not have been reviewed by any major reviewers ( another not so good sign)), it seems that while it can deliver most of the power it claims to be able to, it suffers voltage drop and ripple to pretty bad levels, especially as the load goes up. spec wise inside it looks decent, but the performance implies that the overall design was not great from the start. So I mistrust this PSU, and the brand in general.
I do not trust that power supply. I would toss it and go for an EVGA, XFX, Corsiar (RM/HX/AX series only), Seasonic, or Superflower 80 PLUS BRONZE rated PSU or better. While I cannot say for certain it killed your board, a bad power supply is certainly a suspect.

Solution
Further investigation shows it is of a nearly identical design of a Corsair TX760, so once again while it works, it is getting long in the tooth, and the voltage ripple/drop issues are not great. I guess I was slightly alarmist, but I still do not like it.

Whats the worst thing could happen if i keep it ? i'm asking for scientific reasons as i decided not to keep it and buy instead an xfx pro 450w psu. Thank you for your answers i really appreciate it :)

the worst thing that could happen would be its voltage regulation fails and it cooks everything. it should not do anything worse as it has a decent about of safety measures. so all in all not the worst. there are some PSUs that would probably flat out burn a house.

Thank you for helping me. I was thinking of keeping tha psu as a temporary solution because im on budget, but i guess i dont want to risk frying my new components.

yeah, I know the situation, I feel the losses are just to steep to risk. besides that PSU is pretty old now, it has had a good service life.
