Need a quick consensus on which card is a better performer. The Gainward GTX 1070 dual-fan (think its the base version for Gainward's 1070s) or the EVGA GTX 1070 SC ACX 2.0?

Cheers.

Solution

The Palit Jetstream is only 5 quid more than the 980TI and levels with a Gainward Phoenix
I'd go with that one
I got the Gainward 1070 Phoenix GS and can highly recommend it
according to the reviews I read the Gainward cards are the coolest 1070s so far
EVGA usually got best customer support however

furthermore I'm a bit confused, in the title you talk avout the 980Ti but in the thread you talk about the 1070 SC ACX?

if it's 1070 vs 980Ti I'd go with the 1070, better clocks, more vram, better dx12 support
if it's Gainward vs EVGA 1070 I'd go with the better price

Woops! I meant 980 TI SC. Anyway, the gainward model im talking about is like the one withoit all the fancy colours, its just flat grey/black. So is there any significant difference between the different gainward 1070 models?

I second what Isokolon says about Gainward vs. EVGA, go with the better price. If we're talking about 980 Ti vs. 1070, the 1070 has about a 10-15% performance advantage under a best case scenario, but for the most part, you wouldn't notice a huge performance difference between the two.

But if you want future proofing, and if you plan to do any VR at all, 1070 is definitely the way to go.

oh the grey one wasn't released in my country when I got it
seems it has a completely different cooling solution than the Phoenix cards, using only 90mm fans and a 1.5 slot design
seeing as the cheapest Phoenix is only 15 bucks more I'd get that one (if your case can handle the size)

the difference is:

Gainward 1070 (the grey one): 2x90mm fans, 1506/1683MHz (stock speed), 252x112mm, 1.5 slots
Gainward 1070 Phoenix: 2x100mm fans, 1506/1683MHz (stock speed), 285x133mm, 2.5 slots, zero fan modus (fans start spinning at 50°C), backplate
Gainward 1070 Phoenix GS: 2x100mm fans, 1632/1835MHz (factory OC), 285x133mm, 2.5 slots, zero fan modus (fans start spinning at 50°C), backplate
Gainward 1070 Phoenix GLH: 2x100mm fans, 1670/1873MHz (factory SOC), 285x133mm, 2.5 slots, zero fan modus (fans start spinning at 50°C), backplate, more phases than the other phoenix models

In the UK the grey Gainward is the cheapest rn (others are around 50£ more). So the grey one is the only one i can get. Would that still suffice as a better card than any 980 ti (or especially the SC 980 ti)?

interesting. at my place the grey one is priced at 420€, the Phoenix at 435€ and the GS at 450€
where are you buying from if you don't mind me asking?
gotta look into the 980Ti (which is priced at 640€ here :D). Still think 1070 is the way to go here, but maybe there's an alternative...
