Hey here is my current setup:
I5 6600k
1tb seagate hdd
8gb hyperx ram
Gtx 970 msi
ASUS Z170-E motherboard
EVGA GQ 650W Hybrid Modular 80+ gold PSU
So in september im planning on upgrading my pc. Ive looked at gpu options and something i would maybe like to do is have 2 gtx 1070s in sli. Would my power supply be sufficent to run 2 1070s. if not im going for a single 1080.
(also upgrading to 16gb and an ssd if they use anymore power)
So if you guys could help me i would really appreciate it :)

Solution
It will power your current rig with no problems at all. It's very good quality.

As for your upgrade plans though... I don't recommend SLI for multiple reasons:

1) Power consumption and heat output.

2) Support. Not all games support SLI. Many will only use a single GPU even when more than one are readily available. This problem affects dual GPU cards as well.

3) Non-linear scaling. Having two cards doubles power consumption and heat output, but doesn't yield 2x performance... It's more like 1.5x performance, assuming the game is well optimized for SLI.

4) Microstutter. Where maximum and average framerates will likely see an increase, minimum framerates may drop. This means that the game may feel like it's not playing smoothly...

A minimum of a 500w power supply is recommended for a single 1070. While 1070 power consumption is relatively low, and your 650w PSU might be sufficient, you wouldn't have much overhead available in a peak load situation with 2 installed. While 650w might meet the minimum, it's always better to have slightly more power than you need just in case.

The EVGA GQ series are capable of delivering almost all of their power on the 12V rails. There shouldn't be a power draw issue here as long as he's not using both cards at once for more than a couple hours at a time.

For maximum performance, it's always best to get the best single card you can afford. SLI on the 1070 / 1080 is excellent in games which support it, and for games that are optimized for SLI, the 1070 / 1080 pretty much do scale evenly when used with the new Nvidia SLI HB bridge.

It's hard to predict how SLI support will be moving forward though. Because Nvidia is limiting SLI to 2 way configs now, more developers might be interested in optimizing for it now, but it's hard to say.
