Hello, I just took a Western Digital Scorpio Black out of a laptop I had laying around and put it into my PC. It is the same size as an Solid State Drive and I am wondering if it basically is an SSD? I have a main Western Digital Blue Hard Drive in my system right now as my main storage but I am wondering if I could move my operating system to the Western Digital Scorpio Black and if it would boot it up faster? Its 320gb so I might put some games on it too that I play a lot if it works as an SSD. If anyone could help out I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi there AceIccey,

Well, WD Black is not an SSD. It is just an ordinary mechanical drive. It is the same size as the one of the most SSDs, as it is designed to be used in laptops(2.5'' instead of 3.5''- desktop drive).
What is the model of your WD Blue that is in your computer. In case it is a 7200 RPM one, then there would be really no point in moving your OS to the WD Black.

Apart from that, It will not hurt to test both your drives with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool (both short and extended tests): http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=K031pk
