Hello, I have an asus p5g41t m si mobo, i tried to upgrade ram but if i fill all the ram slots my pc wont start up. It only works if i use 2 sticks of ram and not 4. I have 4x2gb sricks. I tried to put ram in different positions in the slots and nothing works, i also checked the slots to see if they are working and all of them work... Idk if i have the latest bios version (american megatrends 0606) and i tried everything except overclocking because my bios doesnt support it. Can anyone help me?

Solution
...I tried all those positions, and nothing is broken i think because i tested the slots 1 by 1 every slot works. I put the first 2 ram sticks in the 1st and 3rs slots but if i add 1 more to the 2nd slot my pc just wont start up. My pc original os was win 7 32 bits but i upgraded it to win 10 64 bits. And i am not using the g41 chipsets from the mobo, im using a graphics card. Do u know the max ram supported by each one of the slots?

This is a tricky problem. Since you were able to put memory in every slot, they seem all good. Since you tried each memory module, they seem good. Some little detail is not right, but what? By the way, you are using part of the G41 chip as memory controller, even if you don't use the other part...

You know of course that you must have a 64 bit OS to access more than 4GB? Sure, you do, just checking. [edited] It sounds like BIOS does not start, is that right? You never get to the Windows? OK, so let's look in BIOS.

[edited] Put in memory in A1 and A2. Power up your machine and enter Setup, by typing a function key right away after power on, usually F10, sometimes F2, your screen says what to type to enter Setup. Different BIOS programs have different screens, but find the one that shows how much memory you have and in which slots. It should say A1 and A2 have 2GB each. Does it say anything about B1 and B2 empty? It should. Does it have any other information about B1 and B2? What speed does it show for your memory, like 1333/ 1066/ 800? For your Q6600 CPU you need 1066 or faster DDR3 memory; 800 won't work, and 1333 is OK but overkill. If things look good in BIOS, fine, let's add memory. By the way, I found a manual for the MOBO, but in Francais. But it seemed to say the MOBO takes memory modules from 512mb to 4GB per slot. So if all else fails, get 2 4GB modules to verify you can load 8GB in slots A1 and A2 .

This Motherboard ASUS P5G41T M SI has 4 slots for memory, call them [edited] A1,A2,B1,B2 counting away from the CPU. You must add memory in a particular order for the chipset to use it. You add in pairs, so A1 and A2 slots are first, then B1 and B2 slots. This gives you 4GB with A1 and A2, then with B1 6 GB, then with B2 all 8GB.

If that does not work something is broken, either motherboard or memory modules. Or maybe your OS is 32
bit???

This is a tricky problem. Since you were able to put memory in every slot, they seem all good. Since you tried each memory module, they seem good. Some little detail is not right, but what? By the way, you are using part of the G41 chip as memory controller, even if you don't use the other part as graphics controller.

Did you look in BIOS Setup to see the gory details of how your PC sees memory? It will tell you the size and speed of the memory modules you put in. Since something is not working, you have to get into details. Like, are you using memory that matches your CPU? It must have a FSB speed of 800 for your CPU. For best compatibility, all memory modules should match, that is be the same brand, speed, and size.

I would not try overvolting or overclocking yet until they all work, then play with that if you want.

There is a remote possibility that the BIOS is out of date and causing the problem. You should try to get the latest BIOS and install that. Get it here:

http://

There is a remote possibility that your power supply cannot supply the extra power for more memory, but I doubt that highly, it would be unreliable already. If you have any video, sound, or other extra cards plugged in, remove them to see if there is some obscure conflict. Did you disable the onboard graphics driver? (Windows would have tried to load it, and you might have some weird conflict with your graphics card. You go into Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Device Manager, Graphics to disable the G41 graphics driver). As a last resort, you can buy different memory; get 2 x 4GB modules and try them, but they are very expensive. I'm just shotgunning here, trying all sorts of things to poke at the problem, but I don't have a clear idea what's wrong. Don't give up, this is solvable!
