New build! Get Skylake or wait for Kaby Lake?

Hi guys,

so I'm in the process of building a Gaming pc for around 1k...this is the build:
Asus gtx 1060 371.00 € (no MSI available)
MSI B150 Pro Gaming 122.00 €
i5 6600 Skylake 254.00 €
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 8Gb 42.40 €
Kingston SSD HyperX FURY 240GB 92.00 €
1 TB disk 56.00 €
Cooler Master Midi ATX CASE K380 56.00 €
Cooler Master 500W 53.00 €
Cooler Master HYPER 212 EVO 35.40 €

1,081.80 €

now I just realized that there's Kaby Lake Processors coming out very soon. As expected there shouldnt be a huge performance spike but...will the skylake prices drop (20-30 euros, I dont care for that I would still get it now), is the new generation worth waiting for (and getting instead of the Skylake)?

I saw threads of people only upgrading their current CPU's asking if they should wait but what about me, I'm starting completely anew. I do not own a PC now.

P.S.: On Intel's page there are only laptop 7th generation processors, no desktops.

There's no reason to wait. Kaby Lake is just a refresh of Skylake so only minor performance increases. If you were buying a laptop it might be worth it for the improved iGPU and whatever extra amount of energy efficiency they manage to squeeze out of it. But for desktop parts there's no reason to wait.

It was noted in the Kaby Lake announcement that the desktop variants won't be out until next January. The specs for those upcoming chips are still known only to Intel; it's possible the power efficiency gains they're advertising could be channeled into higher clocks but we don't know yet what the performance difference will be.

In any case, Skylake will perform well now.

Skylakes won't drop, Kaby Lake will cost roughly the same, they will literally just replace the skylakes in stock
"Cooler Master 500W" is highly unspecific. but at that price I doubt it's a good unit. get a XFX TS/Seasonic S12II PSU if money is tight, or an EVGA Supernova GS/G2/P2, XFX XTR, Seasonic M12/G if you got a few bucks to spare to get a high quality PSU

also you're overspending a little at the board imo. maybe it has some features you desperately need, otherwise a board ~100€ will be easily enough, even an 80€ board would be alright

furthermore the Hyper 212 Evo is a nice cooler but not completely necessary.
it will keep your CPU quieter and cooler than the stock Intel cooler -- so if that's worth 35€ to you go for it. the stock cooler will get the job done as well however.

I will be buying a new mac book pro when it comes out and they are apparently going to have kaby lakes :)

Thanks for this! Well the PSU is apparently good for it's money. I had it checked on this forum too. It's a B500. None of the PSUs you suggested are available where I live.

Which board would you recommend? Boards are the biggest unknown to me. I dont know the features AT ALL. I wanted a Z170 but turns out I dont need that (as people have suggested in my build post). I want it to last for a few years.

I will probably not get the cooler yet and see if the stock one bothers me too much. 35 is not too much to spend for a quieter experience.

The only MSI B150 board I found that's under 100 is the Pro-VDH...by my research is pretty similar to the bazooka. It costs 78eur...is it ok?
