hello, i just signed up. is there a part of the site i can look at that is aimed at uk customers, all these build prices are in dollars which is useless to me as a uk customer. the site i am on says http://www.tomshardware.co.uk in the address bar so i expected this to be a site for uk people, but apparently not.

Solution
I cant speak on how the forums work in that regard, but I can tell you its easy to get the parts in UK numbers.
If you give a budget we can use UK sites to put together a build (Using uk.pcpartpicker.com)

If you see a build you like, you can add uk. to the front of the link and it will transfer.

The .uk site is basically identical to the .com site.
People here are pretty flexible, and can adjust their brainwaves for whichever side of the pond is in question.
Additionally, we have several Moderators based in Blighty.

As far as build prices...it is mainly a parts list, not necessarily a strict budget list. Prices change every day, so look around and see what is available in your market, today.

Pick a partpicker build , open the link & change the country to UK instead of USA , its as simple as that.

There are plenty of us UK members on here mate too trust me .

The web suffix is ip related, because you're UK based it becomes *****.co.uk automatically , us members get the ****.com suffix instead.
Site content is exactly the same

^ good advice from why_wolf.

Many members ask for a $500 build or suchlike, people post USA builds , then the op states I cant afford those parts ,they're twice as much in my country.

Always atate your own currency & country when asking for build advice.

thanks for the explanation and thanks to everyone else that has responded, i just did that on the following link http://pcpartpicker.com/list/gGsBjc, when i change the country to uk some of the items don't have a listed price, why is that? also, does part picker automatically give you the best price it can find online?

Use this instead: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/
And yes, pcpp will usually/generally/kinda sorta find the best price. Among the sites it knows about.

Its not the best method, but its a start.
Certain parts are not available, so they dont have a price. You just have to find a different part that is for sale (alternatively, starting with the UK site will solve that).

PCPP chooses parts from the most reliable retailers and compares their prices, lowest is shown as the price for the part, when you click it shows all options.

On a side note, thats a partlist I made this morning lol
Here is a UK equivalent: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/9sWC6X

so i guess its good to shop around and see if i can get better deals then the ones on PCPP, but yeah at least its a place to start for someone like me. on a side note that is one monster build, way out of my league haha, two gtx 1080's :ouch:

Starting with the UK partpicker site & swapping countries makes no difference, they are exactly the same thing.

As said partpicker is a good base but it's not infallible , the UK version does not pick up all available prices anywhere near as well as the USA one.

Just because it's not on partpicker does not mean its not available , it just means manually hunting yourself.

I would like to keep the price below £1000 if possible, in the region of £900-1000 is ok as it looks like i will have to spend at least that to get what i want. I don't need peripherals like monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc just the system. It seems like gtx 1060 is the card to go for, i have been told that it matches the gtx 980 performance wise and seems to be a fair bit cheaper so seems like a good choice. i was going to go for gtx 970 but i think i'll push the boat a bit for the 1060. other then that i am open to suggestions regarding hardware.

A 1060 would bring the price down lower.
