I found two laptops on Craigslist that are being sold for the same price ($450), one is a dell e5470 and the other is a Lenovo y410p. The specs are:
(Dell latitude e5470)
i7 6600u
R7 m360 (2gb ddr3)
1x16gb ddr4 2133mhz
256 m.2 sata ssd (1 open 2.5 bay)
14inch 1366x768 res
~0.9 in closed lid
(Lenovo y410p)
i7 4700mq
Gt 750m (2gb gddr5)
8gb ddr3 1600mhz
1tb Seagate hybrid drive (8gb nand ssd)
128gb 840 pro
14 in 1600x900 res
~1.2 in closed lid

I am a power user (unreal engine 4) and occasionally like to play games such as lol, overwatch and civ. beyond earth. I don't care about battery life as long as it can last for 2 hours unplugged doing moderate load tasks. The dell laptop is more recent and thinner, but the Lenovo one powerful (cpu wise). Portability matters to me, as this will be my desktop replacement for when I travel places. Which one should I get?

The Lenovo y410 is quite a bit faster. Faster video card, a real quad core CPU. The u models are lower voltage variants and are not quite as fast.

Only thing worse is the SSD is a bit small and is a last generation model. The hybrid drive works pretty well though.

As a tech, I'd get the Lenovo and swap out the 128 GB SSD for a 256 or 500 GB one.
