Hey guys so I haven't been able to answer this question myself online so I thought I'd ask some questions.

Currently I have an i3 3220 and I'm thinking of buying a used i5 3470 for $100 because my i3 is really starting to bottleneck in battlefield 1 and other new games too I imagine. I was wondering if I could just use the stock i3 fan for my i5 since the used doesn't come with one. And also when I upgrade my cpu do I need to do anything software wise? For example when upgrading gpu recommended to uninstall drivers of the previous graphics card. I was thinking of updating bios but I would only do that if I need to, I hear sometimes updating it causes problems so yeh.. Thanks in advance guys!

Solution
The BIOS is your firmware that you update direct, the mobo drivers are done into the OS and there's a wide variety of them (LAN, mobo chipset) SATA, Audio, USB, etc) ;)

I went onto the website http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H77M_LE/HelpDesk_CPU/. I know my bios version is 0401 and it says for the i5 3470 you need the bios version 0604. So should I update? And since I'm updating should I just update to the very latest of one. Sorry for being a little Nooby here I'm just new to this stuff trying to learn.

You will need to update otherwise it likely won't work at all and yeah you might as well update to the newest bios for your motherboard.

Might be a Dumb question but what is the difference between a bios update and driver update for the motherboard... Thought it was the same thing.
