Hi this is Deng,
I just got myself a new rig running on Windows 10 Home

The problem is that
1.HDD works fine for a few hours then it slows down dramatically.
2.I tested it for several times everytime this happened, i could not finish the test. Tests were taking forever.
3.I checked the Taskmanager, it only had a transfer rate for about 1-10MB/s, mostly 1MB/s.(While doing the test)
4.I literally cant do anything by this time, as the file manager fails to open for this drive, and games quit on start up.
5.Weirdly, problem can be solved by restarting the pc.

And i dont think this relates to any Windows 10 high Active Time issues. I tried to solve it this way by changing defaut driver mode, stopping auto malware scan, and so on. The Active Time is low but the drive is still very slow.

And i use hybernate mode. I am not sure if that has anything to do with this, i will shut down this computer properly tonight, and see if this thing keeps happening tomorrow.

Spec (All new)
SSD: OS is installed on Samsung 850 EVO
HDD:WD Blue 1TB (The problem drive)
CPU:i7-6700
Motherboard:MSI 170H-Gaming Pro
PSU:EVGA Supernnova 650 GS
Windows 10 Home 64bit

Thanks guys,
I`m so desperate now..

As a person who just solved my own problem, i cant feel more happy for you!!!

After all, its windows, if you cant solve it with restart, then solve it with reinstall. LOL
Hey ShizukuDn.

Sorry to hear about the issues you're having with your HDD.

Just as with any other drive related problem, I'd advise you to backup your data as soon as possible, just to be on the safe side. Once you've done that you could download DLG (Data Lifeguard) and run both tests (Quick and Extended), to see if anything unusual pops-up. You should also give the HDD a try with a different SATA port and different cables, to see if the issue still persists.

Here's how to test it with DLG: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows

Please let me know how everything goes.

I did a test yesterday, it passed the SMART test, i failed to do a extended test as it takes forever. (Opened up the task manager, the read/write speed is only 1MB/s, so i gave up)

Then i just finished the extened test, and it past.

I actually switched out the SATA cable to a different port last night and tightened the PSU cable(which was already very tight.)

And I did not use hybernate mode. I completely shut down the computer.

At this point, i feel this is not a hardware issue, as i can fix it by restarting the computer, but i have no idea what type of software issue would slow it down after hours of usage. (Mostly surfy the net, playing video games.) I just dont understand.

Waiting to see what is going to happend today.

Thank you so much!

The result of the test, somwhow i cant get the image to show up...

And also, when the problem happens, the active time is really high 100% with 1-10MB/s transfer rate and a extremely high reponse time over 5000ms.

And I just did another quick transfer rate test.
The speed is now one third of the speed in the afternoon. .....
I dont get it.

I think the speed somehow slows down gradually.

It's pretty weird. I've engaged another tread with the same kind of issue (different drive though) and all the tests are fine as well. Do you remember installing anything before the issue occurred, or was it like that from the start with the new build?
Check if there are any available updates for your OS and install them to see if it fixes things up. Make a full scan of your drives for viruses with the antivirus program (after updating its database).

I just ran a full test using Windows Defender, no threat found. And this problem is from when i started to use this computer. I installed Cities Skylines but i could not start it then i realized the drive speed is incradbly low.

All drivers are up to date.

I even tested my RAM using memtest86 and there are fine.

What is the other thread? Maybe is should also update the situation there and we could find a solution together.

The same thing happened today, HDD gradually slowed down to 40MB/s about ten hours after i turned it on.
Funny thing is, my GPU seemed to have some problem adjusting its clock speed, when i was playing battlefield 4 tonight, the card wouldnt go to full clock speed, and gave me some weird stutters. Seemed like its trying to keep it at 60 FPS. Then i did a restart and it fixed itself. I think its because Nvydia`s new driver.

I reinstalled Windows 10 and its running fine for two days now.
The transfer speed stays rock solid at around 180MB/s. The line is so straight and the speed doesnt even change.

Sorry for the late response. So it actually was a software issue of some sort. Thanks for the info, this could prove helpful with the other case (btw here it is: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3171104/hdd-random-slow-read-speed-dying.html), although judging by the last post it now sounds like the problems might be different as according to the last post the disk usage is closer to 0% rather than 100%.

Mine seems to be a software conflict.
My HDD was tested perfectly, both read and write speed test were around 200MB/s
But it gradually slowed down during the usage, after five hours the speed was only one third, then it became 1-10MB/s.

I still dont get it. The only difference after i reinstlled windows is that i dont use that hdd as backup disk anymore.
