Hi all. Recently I built a computer, but the PCI slot was blocked by the video card unfortunately, since it was a micro ATX build. First I bought a Netgear wifi adapter: (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/netgear-ac1200-wireless-ac-high-gain-wi-fi-usb-3-0-adapter-black/8860004.p?id=1219375117547&skuId=8860004) It worked pretty well, for a while. I was able to enjoy playing Counter Strike with no lag. But recently I started to get lag spikes randomly, where the ping would just go up and down constantly.

I thought it was because it was old, so I decided to stop using it and move my rig to where the router is. The problem is, the place where my router is located at is not a comfortable spot to fit my rig.

So I was told from my friend to get a wifi extender, and plug the ethernet cable from that to my rig. I just got it today, so I decided to try it out. It worked pretty good until I started playing Counter Strike. It was even worse than the time when I had a wifi adapter. The Ping would literally spike up, and I was not able to move in the game, and would drop back down slowly after like about 10 seconds.

After all of this, I decided to make an account here and to ask the tech pros for a solution to this. The PCI slot is blocked, and looks like Wifi Adapters and Wifi extender doesn't work.. Is there any other way I can game in my room without experiencing lag spikes?

I don't know if this may be the reason why but since I live in California, the place gets really hot, so maybe it is because it overheated?

Use powerline networks that use the electical wires in your house to connect between the router and your pc.

You likely have the fairly standard problem of wireless interference. It will change from day to day because it generally is coming from outside your house from say neighbors using wifi on the same channels as you. This is the key reason you see everyone say never play online games on wireless.

Using a extender on a cable and then placing the extender next to the pc is almost stupid thing to do. If your internal nic gets bad signal so will a extender sitting next to the computer. It really is just a nic card that is attached to your pc via ethernet. Now if you would run the cable part way down a hall or something...
