Will a 8 pin PCIE Connector work for this?

Will a 8 pin PCIE connector work for a 8 pin cpu power on a dual cpu motherboard like the Dell T5610? If not, will it still work with one cpu and one 8 pin cpu connector?

Solution

If the PSU doesn't have dual EPS is likely can't handle a dual CPU system anyway... PSU replacement is the easiest and best option

the 8 pin PCI-E connector is keyed differently than the CPU12V 8 pin. It won't go in without a ton of force, enough to deform the connector. and if you do manage to shove it in, like the above poster said, you'll likely do bad things to the motherboard.

Yeah it will not work unless you get an adapter to change the pins to a EPS 8Pin connector. In theory if the pins were laid out the same, it would work since the 12v is the same on those single rail PSUs (mostly all of them now).

If you force the PCIE power connector in, you will fry the computer, the 12v and grounds are swapped.

even though both are 12V, the pinout is probably not the same and you might ground the 12V, which would be bad.

they make adapters for those since the end connector is always going to be the same. But you are essentially taking away 1 PCIE cable, so that is something to look out for.

Also they make adapters to switch it into 2x 8PIN EPS. For motherboards like that Dell one. It won't deliver the full 300watts~, without melting stuff, but it's enough to trick the system.
