Hello I'm going to be building a new PC and I'm getting the MSI Gaming Pro Carbon 2011-3 board with a i7-6800k. I was wondering how to update the bios because it says that I need a bios update PRIOR to using a broadwell-e cpu. Keyword is "prior", so do I need to get a different cpu then do the update, or can I just do the update with that cpu?

Solution
Where is it saying that you need the BIOS update before using Broadwell-E? According to MSI's website it would seem the BIOS version 1.0 has some sort of Broadwell-E support seeing that it says the version 1.1 has "- Improved Broadwell-E CPU compatibility." leading me to believe that version 1.0 has some Broadwell-E support.. Also any board sold now should have a newer BIOS version than 1.0 unless it is old stock that has been sitting around since late May. So I think you should be OK. I checked and did not find a way to flash BIOS's on this board without a working CPU.

Thanks, PcPartPicker was telling me, so if I put it in and use it then I'll be fine because the bios is already factory updated? Or do I have to update it myself?

As long as the board is made after may it will have at least BIOS version 1.0 on it and that does support Broadwell-E from what I have read becasuse it was made for broadwell-e. So yes you would be all set as it would be updated from the factory.. If it is made in the last month it could even have BIOS version 1.2 which has an even more "Improved Broadwell-E support". BIOS updates are really easy to do nowadays and are pretty safe to do as long as you don't loose power but seeing as it has a dual BIOS worse case you would just have to switch to the backup BIOS and then you would be all set.

Thank you very much. I have one more question though, I was looking at kinguin.net for a windows 10 pro key and I don't know if it comes with the installer or if it's just the key.

It is just the key, you download Windows 10 from Microsoft..
