so i orderd a evga 950 and i know once you install it you have to download drivers for it. but obviously for that you need to boot up your pc so should i plug the monitor into the dvi on the gpu or where i used to plug it in intergrated graphics ? or does if i plug it in integrated graphics will it still use the gpu?

Yeah still plug the monitor into the graphics card, it will still display without driver, it will just be at low resolution until the drivers are installed.
You can download the drivers before installing it, then just run the installer once you have the card in the pc.
