Chrome completely bricked my laptop.

I just made the latest update to Google Chrome and after that update, something completely went wrong with my laptop. When I manage to clear the browser's data, it completely freezes. Same goes for when I go to the update tab and it starts checking for updates. It basically freezes completely. When I go to Task Manager and try to end the process, nothing happens. It simply stays there. When I manage to kill the process tree, again nothing. And finally when I try to restart my laptop, it completely freezes on shutdown and forces me to shut it down from the power button.

I completely re-installed Chrome (including AppData and program files), checked for suspicious extensions, ran an antivirus and Malwarebytes scan and nothing. When I install it and use it again, the same thing happens. I really have no idea what's happening.

Any ideas? I am running on Win 7. I would appreciate if you can help me. Thank you.

Solution
You could possibly confirm if the issue is with your laptop or with the Chrome browser update by (at least temporarily) installing/using another browser that uses the GPU. If the issue is only with Chrome, then wait for another update (or fix, like disable Chrome hardware acceleration, update laptop graphics chipset drivers, etc.).
