AMD FX 8350 overheats very easily.

I'm not sure what's going on with this thing. I got a new case with 4 fans, 2 pointing out and 2 inside blowing in. When idle or under light activity the CPU is 29-37C below the thermal threshhold in AMD Overdrive. If I load my video rendering program and put a video there, not even rendering just sitting in queue it goes right over the thermal threshold by 1-5C unless underclocked and when actually rendering it goes 10-12 C over and quickly gets turned off. Once the program is closed temperatures rapidly drop. I've used this rendering program for months and it worked fine until a few days ago.

I also replaced the stock cooler with a Cooler Master T2 but this didn't make a difference. I also opened the case and looked around and found I installed a fan backwards but fixing that didn't make a difference either. Everyone I see with this processor makes it run much cooler so what am I doing wrong here?

Absolutely mate , I'd say the stock cooler is better than the t2.
The thing is video rendering, encoding, transcoding is where the 8350 absolutely shines BUT you're essentially putting the equivalent of a constant stress test load on it while you're doing this.

A good cooler is absolutely necessary .

There are a few areas you can look into.
1st. With the Fans you need to have a clear flow of air usually in the front and out the back or top. So arrange the Fans to create that kind of air flow.
2nd. Did you remove the old thermal paste off the CPU and apply new Thermal grease when you changed the cooler? I use rubbing alcohol and a QTip to remove the old thermal paste; then apply new thermal grease correctly of course.
3rd. Are you sure the heatsink is making good, even, contact and is firmly attached to the CPU?

My fans look like this right now:

_____
l <^.<l
l ....<l
l.......l
_____

Really crude but you get the idea.

I don't see much blocking the way (the case has good cable management so the cables reach straight from PSU > Mobo without hanging in the way). I'm not sure if it's sitting flat but it is locked firmly in place. I know for a facr I didn't remove the old paste first. >.> That would do it.

Good thing I have extra paste. I don't have remover though.

What cooler should I get? Evo 212?

what your case model,& board model??
Also country & max budget

there are better (& sometimes cheaper options than the 212 evo)

Your diagram - am I right in assuming you have 2 front intakes,1 rear exhaust & that t2 is orientated with the fan downwards towards the gpu??

There are 2 fans in the back of the case blowing out. The CPU fan is facing one of them. So air should blow out of the CPU, and out the fan and the case right?

The image on the store page gives a much clearer idea. Mine is that minus the bottom front fan (the screwholes on the case weren't large enough and I don't have a drill).

I'd rather not spend any more money or at most 2 dollars removing thermal paste as I already burned all my money on various additional or replacement parts.

I've always used Rubbing alcohol also known as isopropyl alcohol to remove the old thermal paste. You don't need anything special just a cap full and a QTip. Dip the QTip to get some alcohol on it (not so it is dripping) and gently rub the surfaces to remove the old thermal grease.

Mad is right there are cheaper option to the 212 evo. That is an old model but is still out selling the newer models with gamers.

In just looking at your last reply.
Where exactly is your CPU fan ??

Is it
1. At the rear of the CPU near the case exhaust fans

2.at the front of the CPU next to the RAM

It shoud be 2 - next to the ram
All tower coolers blow air into the heatsink not draw it away.

Id still argue the t2 isn't good enough but if you have the fan at the rear then you're essentially halving its performance as its going to be fighting with a 120mm case fan.

Whoops, didn't notice there was a response here. The stock CPU points out from the mobo at a 90 degree angle. The T2 faces in the same direction as the case fan. The CPU fan blows out and the case fan also blows out. I'm not sure if I understand the question and in any case I have thermal compound waiting and a 212 evo coming in a day.
