CPU: Intel i5-6600k
Mobo: Asus Z170-Deluxe
Cooler: Corsair H100i V2

im building my dad a beasty computer because hes sick of his pre-built junk rig and i got everything together, exactly how i have always built them in the past i get it to the start up page and notice the CPU temp slowly climbing, it got all the way to 75 degrees Celsius and i shut the machine down. I have tried everything, such as plugging the liquid cooler into headers other than the CPU_FAN or CPU_OPT, i have pulled the pump and reapplied the thermal paste numerous times, i even swapped out the mother board for a new one. The pump turns on and lights up and the fans turn on so i am assuming it works?! this is driving me absolutely nuts, is it possible the cooler, or the CPU is defective? please help.

cooler i would think. Is it pumping well? you dont know :( manufacturing defect on the cooler possible. would you have another cooler available? ( air.. stock type or whatever) to test.

silly question.... did you set up the fans on the radiator properly? I have an H100 with fans PUSHING air into the cooler, do you have them pulling?

i dont know how i can test if its pumping or not? i didnt have another cooler around and the cpu didnt come with a stock one so i just picked up a second h100i. i have them pulling, i installed them in my machine this way because if i dont then ill be blowing hot air from inside the case through the radiator.

which case do you have? (your radiator mounts on top?) your fans are taking air from inside case and making the air go through the radiator out of the case? or are they taking air from outside and pulling it into the case?

If you have a good airflow set up, meaning proper air intake and air output as well as neatly put together case, you shouldn't worry about the "HOT" air, most of your heat is generated by the CPU which is transfered into your cooler and the other one is by GPU which all generally have exhaust to rear of case through the card. (some of my facts may be a little off)

yes they pull the air through the radiator from outside of the case. its a fractal design r5 case, and i picked up a second cooler and it worked fine, temps stay around 26 idle. thanks for the help!
