Hi, I would like to get your experienced opinions on this. It's my first time building a PC. I've read a lot from here but still I'm undecided to where my budget should focus on. Should I go for a cheaper I5 6500 + MSI B150M Mortar Artic + GTX 1070 vs I5 6600K + CM evo 212 x + MSI Z170M Mortar (least expensive MB) + GTX 1060 build? The price difference is that GTX 1070 build is 54 dollars more from where I am. This difference is OK for my budget but if I go with 6600K with GTX 1070 it;s going to be way more than my planned budget.

Both have different advantages/disadvantages if you could list them for me pls. CPU and MB - weaker but better GPU or CPU and MB better - paired with a budget GPU? I usually use MS office - power point presentation, minor video editing, streaming and for games: civs, nba 2k, Tropico, fall out, COD and will probably try newer games. Emails and browsing the normal stuff :)

For RAM do I really need 2 x 8GB now or go for 2 x 4GB and buy another set later on?

BTW all of this will go to Bitfenix Prodigy M arctic white for a white themed PC - which I already bought along with NZXT 200MM fan on the bottom for intake (opposed to it being an exhaust). The two 120mm fan that came with the case will be on top as an exhaust.

Any suggestions to better this build are welcome.

Hi there.

-The non-K i5 is fine as I don't think your overclocking are you.

-Getting a basic board is fine if your not going to use all features a more expensive board would have.

-Cooler wise the Skylake K CPU's don't come with one sadly but if you going for non-K it comes with one but I would recommend you get an aftermarket one like the evo you suggested.

-RAM wise I would advice getting over a total of 8GB as games are now starting to use over 8GB. I have seen this in Far cry 4 Battlefield 4 & 1 and Fallout 4.

I have put a bit of a build together for you:

Thanks! I will go for the 1070 and i5 6500 pair. Sadly the GPU which is on-sale and within my budget is the MSI GTX 1070 X 8 G. It's the same price as the EVGA's founder edition. The only white GPU available is the ASUS dual. Between the first two which is an ideal buy? (btw I will be gaming on a 1080p monitor only).

For the storage, I'm planning to buy a 240GB SSD and then later get an additional SSD since the 3.5" HD would not fit anymore in this case.

And for the PSU, I've read good reviews for seasonic m12ii evo 520. It's the only PSU available within my budget. Is it good enough for this build? The EVGA is only available at higher wattage and too costly.

I will use the stock CPU cooler for the meantime and buy an after-market cooler later on.

Ye the founder editions tend to overheat and underclock themselves, I like the look of them but I will always stick with MSI as I love my GTX 970 so much and in so going to get the 1080 in the future when the 970 struggles at 1080p which wont be for a long while yet.

Hi sorry for posting this on the same thread. For this build is it ok to use 450w Fractal Design Edison M. Unfortunately the seasonic is no longer available. And for the ram sticks is it going to be significantly slow during multi-tasking to get 4gb x 2? But add 2 more of the same model & specs in the future? Thanks!

I thought so too. I bought the antec HCG-520M - saw on psu tier list its the same as the seasonic and read the reviews. Hopefully, I won't be facing any incompatibility issues?

Thanks! But the online shop called today and said they only have the CM V650w - which is better I guess? It's getting more difficult to put these together. The decision from getting each item boils down to what is available and then all the pc parts are priced higher compared to amazon US.

Btw, I got the LG 24mp88 - 60HZ 1080p monitor. Would the GTX 1070 be too much with my monitor?
