Hello.
I have a H81M-plus and i'm wondering if an i5 4690k would work with it.
Up to this point i ran I3-4130 and to be quite honest it is no longer enough to fill my needs :p
So if 4690k won't work, what would work with my motherboard?
Also i'm currently using 8 gigs of DDR3 ram.
Should anyone need this info i can provide more pc specs, but i'm not sure which ones matter and which ones don't.
I focus mainly on gaming and my CPU should be mainly for that, allthough it can't be too expensive.
For the record i have a GTX 760 for the time being and i'm planning to upgrade sometime in future.

I hope your eyes didn't bleed after seeing my post, if so i apologize in advance.

You would have needed a Z97 to overclock a K cpu. You could still use a i5-4690k but you can't OC on a B81 mobo, so it's just a cpu. Higher performance locked cpus are the i5-4590, i5-4690, i7-4770, i7-4790 or Xeon 1230v3 (basically a 3.3GHz i7 with no igpu, so roughly the same price as i5-4690). The absolute best cpu would be an i7-4790k, its turbo speed reaching 4.4GHz at stock levels. Just no overclock.
Yes the H81M-PLUS is compatible with your i5 4690K. I do however recommend a Bios update to 2205 for better system stability.(if you haven't already done so)
Go here for Bios: https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/H81MPLUS/HelpDesk_Download/
You may also need to update MEI and chipset driver.

Not a major improvement performance wise but the i5 4690k CPU is overclockable.
In single-threaded tasks, the Intel i5-4690K processor has 17% higher performance.
The Intel Core i5-4690K performs 71% faster in multi-threaded applications.
Memory performance of the microprocessor is better.
The i5-4690K performs 4% faster in graphics tasks.

As in not a big a improvement comparing to my previous Cpu, or not a big improvement with overclocking? Or even not a big improvement after the bios update? My bios version is 8.0.4.0.
Also sorry for any spelling mistakes, im not used to writing on phones.
Thanks for the answer and thanks in advance.

It's a H81M Plus. Forget about any OC. Using the i5-4690k would be a waste of money since you pay a premium for an unlocked K cpu, and can't use it. Cheaper solution that works is the i5-4590/4690 or even a Xeon 1230v3 which will have equitable clock speeds at turbo, and 4-8 threads with much larger L2/L3 cache which will improve gaming capability and the use of larger gpus.

You won't get a great improvement period as the MB has its limitations regarding OC.
Bios update is for stability and would not effect performance.

So that means 4690 us comparable to 4690k, but without overclocking capabilities? What would be the best cpu for gaming that is compatibile with my motherboard and is usable with ddr3 RAM, and is about as expensive as 4690k? Also thank you for all the help Guys ☺
Edit: forgot to are. Im OP, but had to sign up through gmail because Phone wouldnt let me access this forum through Facebook like i previously did.

I7 4790k seems like a monster cpu and i dont know if combining it with my poor gtx 760 would make much sense.

As good as i3 hyperthreading is its quite simply no match for a true quad core i5.
Ignore the clock speeds , any i5 ia an upgrade over the 4130 in real world terms for current gaming titles.
The 4460 is probably Intel's best seller of all time & can be paired with far stronger cards than a 760.
That is your bang for buck upgrade by a long stretch
