Having trouble with a new PC build, most likely the motherboard

Hey everybody,

I figured I should just explain everything I have done and all of the problems I have encountered and maybe somebody will see where I have gone wrong or have a possible solution.

So, I got my entire build up, but originally the PC wasn't posting. Everything was turning on, fans, graphics card, and all. But it would go into a boot loop. Turn on, 20 seconds later, turn off, repeat in 5 seconds.

Naturally, I came on here for possible solutions, checked everything. It turned out the cable I was using to get the 8 pin ATX port on the motherboard wasn't working, or was flipped (I just used the back up cable, so I'm not sure which one). After that, the PC would run forever, but it would still not post.

I originally thought this was because I wasn't hitting the delete key, which my motherboard manual said to do when posting (at the time, I thought posting was just turning on). Since I have a blue tooth keyboard, I thought it wasn't getting to the bios because I wasn't able to hit the delete key. I had a friend come over to use a wired keyboard, and still nothing was happening after pressing delete.

So then something weird happened. We for some reason thought to unplug the cable connecting the power supply to the graphics card, and after doing that, the screen popped up and we were able to get the the bios.

We got windows 10 installed, and after that was working, I figured I would restart the computer and plug in the graphics card cable again. Well, sure enough, it wouldn't get the screen to turn on again (i guess that's called "posting"). I turned the computer over, unplugged the graphics card from the mother board, re attached it, rewired it and all, and still it wouldn't post.

So I was like "alright, maybe I need to unplug graphics card, get to the bios, and tell it to use the graphics card from there.." But when I did that, the PC wouldn't post anymore. Not even without the graphics card cable plugged in, like it just had like 30 minutes before hand.

So now I feel like Im back to square 1 again, and I have no idea what is wrong now. I've looked to make sure everything is plugged in. Now all i get when I turn on the PC is a boot loop that lasts about 20 seconds, just like when I just started.

If anybody out there has any ideas, please share. I am desperate to get this working! This is my first time building a computer so I am very anxious.

Specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte LGA 1151 Z170
Processor: intel i-5 6500
Graphics card: MSI Geforce GTX 1060
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GS

Thank you in advance, and sorry for the incredibly long message.

Honestly if I were to take a stab at this, I would say it's a RAM failure. What kind of RAM are you using and what's the speed / timing / voltage on it? In order to determine if it's a faulty module take out all the modules and then insert them one by one and see if your PC boots up after trying each module.

Yeah that should work fine in your motherboard but I would say with your situation that the odds are pretty good that one of the modules is dead. I had a similar problem on one of my PCs and after several hours of diagnosis, I just took out one of the RAM modules and that worked. Try that and see what happens.

Dang that would really be a bummer if I have a broken module. Im not home right now, but I will try this when I am. I just find it weird how it originally worked without the graphics card.... it made me think that was faulty. but now it doesn't work at all, with or without it. I have a warranty on almost all of it, it will just be annoying to have to wait for parts again lol. Thank you though!

Which 1060 are you using? 6gb or 3gb?
Make sure the RAM is in the same colored slots (for my Mobo the slots are grey and black). Is there built in Graphics on your motherboard? If not, I don't see how it posted to the monitor as it had to go through the graphics card.

I have the 3 GB one, and I am pretty sure there would have to be built in graphics. Otherwise there would be no way to post if the graphics card wasn't plugged in completely.
