Trying to build my budget pc, I've come across a question. DDR3 or DDR4. The ddr3 that I'm considering is the Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB single stick (since the motherboards I'm considering only has 2 RAM slots, in that way I can upgrade) while the DDR4 is the HyperX Savage 8GB single stick, again, for the same reasons. I read once that to see the performance in a very simple way you could do speed/cas (using this it comes to DDR3: 177,(7) and DDR4:164,..). The mobo for the ddr3 option support up until 1600mhz and the ddr4 up until 2133mhz so I can't really update speeds in the near future. Since I'll use this pc for about 4 years until I have some money to upgrade the motherboard and RAM (since when you upgrade the mobo, you need to rebuy Windows), I was wondering which was the best. Considering the prices for the mobos and ram, I would pay about the same for each option so no problem there. I'm using 2 different mobos of course. The CPU is a i3-6100 and although it's H110, There are ASUS D3 motherboards made for DDR3 and the intel socket 1151.

Thanks in advance to who answers!

PS: I was initally going for Crucial Ballistix Tactical DDR3 1600 Cas8 (which I believe would be amazing because mhz/Cas=200) but in my country the prices went up around 10 euros so that would be a bit more expensive and I'm trying to save the most where I can.

While Skylake can work with DDR3, it officially only supports DDR3L.

Your simplest option is to go with DDR4 and not have to worry about that or future availability of larger DIMMs if you decide to upgrade to 16GB. Two or three years from now, DDR3 may get expensive due to most DRAM manufacturers being well on their way to discontinuing most production.

Let me say it again:

DO NOT USE DDR3 FOR SKYLAKE PROCESSORS

No real option there, get the DDR4. Usually you can get 2400MHz for the same price as 2166, so look around

''If you're talking about Skylake H110/B150/H170 boards, DO NOT BUY DDR3 AT ALL, IT WILL DAMAGE YOUR CPU! ''

that's kinda incorrect its you got to use low voltage ddr3 [1.35]

but if going skylake why use ddr3 anyway may as well build a way more issue less haswell - I see guys want to use ddr3 and then windows 7 ??? that not what skylake is for

I wouild build a haswell over a skylake today and see whats next never liked any intel that had a split memory controller to me it weak and look at how 775 is today and upgrading then to todays ddr3 memory [now just don't work anymore]
