Does anyone have experience with A12-9730P laptops?

Solution
Take a look at my post above, 2 of the images are GPU benchmarks. AMD's iGPU performs terribly compared with Intel's when given the same power budget.
AMD doesn't make any high-end processors. Although it's not a dog, AMD's APUs are generally all entry-level in terms of performance.

In a non power-constrained environment, I expect AMD's APUs would have a performance edge in graphics, even if their CPU would still be significantly slower. However, in notebooks, due to AMD using the much older and more power hungry 28nm process (compared with Intel's 14nm), both CPU and GPU tend to perform worse at a given power level.

You might want to read this:

The 8800 is essentially the same CPU as the 9730. Note how even at 4.5w, Intel CPUs are close to 50% faster than AMD CPUs at 15w.

Battery life tends to be a bit worse too, though it's hugely improved over AMD's previous generation of CPUs, and no longer embarrassing.

No, it's still Carizzo. AMD has not released a new core design since Excavator (Carrizo). They've simply refreshed it with slight changes to clockspeed and given it a new model number, much how my HD7850 was sold in 2012 as HD7850, rebranded as HD8850 in 2013, R9 270 in 2014, and R9 370 in 2015. It's the same GPU, just with a new number to help AMD continue selling it, so people don't have the perception that it's an old product.

The only bench marks I could find on this cpu where here https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A12-9700P&id=2848

http://imgur.com/a/0gugs - link to a screen grab of the bench.

If I was willing to sacrifice some cpu power for gpu would this processor be decent? or is it just all around not as good as intel 5th gen ( assuming I wouldn't get a 6th gen at that price point CAD) Basically just for work email and low end gaming while I travel.

I cant even find the cpu on amd's website.. all I can find about it is that its supposed to be 15W

The gpu looks like it might be better than the intel HD 520, I keep seeing conflicting benchmarks though. Iris graphics is clearly better however I wont find those in a $500-600 CAD laptop.

not all of the 6xxx have iris graphics, most of the less expensive ones have intel HD 520 from what I've seen. I saw a 3dmark that had the iris graphics ahead of 940m.

Graphics aside, Intel's CPU portion is undoubtedly superior to AMD's, and that can make a huge difference in games. Battery life is also better with an Intel CPU, due to the process advantage Intel has. Hopefully we'll see some real competition when AMD gets their Zen APUs to market, but for now it's hard to recommend an AMD chip.

If you look at the notebookcheck review posted by ComputerSecurityGuy, the shittiest a10-9600p takes a lead over intel non iris graphics of between 15 and 25%. IF you can find a 35w AMD laptop it will run circles around any intel noniris laptop.
A modern phone cpu can take care of all your email needs and even some gaming, any modern amd or intel cpu will do much more. Intel is definitely better, but meh.. its pretty benchmarks and not much significant user experience difference.
For your needs, go for a 35w amd laptop with ddr4 dualband ram. If you find pretty much anything above an nvidia 935 or 940m for a similar price youd probably be better off there.
