How much RAM does my CPU support?

Hi all

I'm looking to upgrade my RAM from 2x4GB to 4x4GB, the problem is, I'm not sure my CPU supports it. I've looked up my CPU (an i5-4670K) and it says "Max Memory Size - 32GB" so that's good i guess. But then it says "Max # of Memory Channels - 2", does that mean it only supports 2 RAM sticks? Because that would make me have to get 2x8GB, right?.¨

Another thing that confuses me is that on Intels website it says "Supported Memory Types - DDR3-1333/1600, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.5V", though mine are are DDR3 running at 2133 MHz???

I hope someone can answer these questions, if you want to know more about my specs just ask :)

If you have 4 RAM slots, you can put in 4x 8GB sticks for a total of 32GB.

Although it's not officially supported, you may be able to install 4x 16GB sticks for a total of 64GB.

"Max # of Memory Channels - 2" means that your CPU supports Dual Channel. That means that your CPU can access two Rams modules simultaneously. You can add another 2 sticks of RAMs, but you could only access two of them at the same time (most user oriented CPUs have dual channel only). About the RAM clock speed, what mobo do you have?

Depending which chipset your board has, say Z87 or Z97, either of those should support 32 GB. Officially, 32 GB is the max for Z97 chipsets, and some Z87 boards are known to support up to 64 GB. Some boards can accommodate more than others outside of the JEDEC standard.

4 x DIMM, Max. 32GB, DDR3 2933(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666(O.C.)/2600(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel Memory Architecture
Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)

With your board and CPU combo you can run 2133 easily , the board only runs 32gb.

But I'm not interested in 32GB, I'm interested in getting 4x4GB (16GB in total), I'm just unsure if i can run it since my CPU says its maximum RAM channels are 2???
