So my mum has been running vista for several years now so it was time to upgrade to windows 7 and 10 before the free upgrade ran out. Unfortunately during the upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10 since the old computer was left on for so long it kicked the bucket and PSU blew. Now since then ive rebuilt the computer and have the same HDD in there but it seems to be trying to boot into vista even though i successfully installed windows 7 and basically 10. Im thinking my best bet is too wipe the drive and try a fresh install of windows 7 but since ive never wiped a drive before the process is a little daunting. Is there a way to resolve this without a wipe or could anyone explain to me a safe and easy way to perform a HDD wipe? thank you

Solution
when u r about to install windows 7, u will get the option to format the drive...make sure u format the drive from that menu and then go ahead and install windows...
u can also try this alternatively... http://www.dban.org/
